One of the smallest resorts in the Maldives, and that is really saying something, miniscule Drift Thelu Veligaa is a fairly new addition to the Maldivian hotel scene in South ari atoll. Charming "back to nature feel" is the thing here. Dan and Jo, wonderful people from Angelfish Travel in the UK (Maldivesdirect) are on the Island at the moment and, since it is friday, I thought a little inspiration for the weekend was in place. Jo has actually created her very own cocktail aptly named "Angelfish" ;-) I have had some Contact with these, my fellow Maldivian addicts, and can warmly recommend them if you are thinking of booking a holiday to the Maldives. They know everything and ar eextremely well updated on what is going on.

Below is what JO herself thinks about the resort:
"Thelu Veliga Retreat is the first offering from new Maldivian brand “Drift Retreats & Cruises”, and is immediately vying to be our favourite island. Why? Well, it’s partly a matter of taste, and partly the outstanding natural beauty. If you have travelled with us before, you’ll know from speaking to us that we prefer authentic over fabricated, and it doesn’t get much more ‘real’ than this.
Thelu Veliga is a tiny (1.1 hectare), untouched gem in the South Ari Atoll. Previously used as a snorkelling excursion or dive boat stop-off, this is the epitome of an Indian Ocean desert island. Just 10 traditional detached beach bungalows nestle amongst the tropical foliage, a few steps across impossibly soft sand to the water’s edge. A further 20 over water villas offer direct access to a shallow lagoon, perfect for swimming and low-key water sports, and surrounded by an extensive house reef. If you’re a diver, you’ll already know all about what South Ari has to offer.

Add a sunset bar, a restaurant serving high quality (but unpretentious) food, first class, personalised Maldivian hospitality, and a small spa with three over water suites, and that’s it. While so much time and effort has been spent bringing additional experiences to the Maldives, with Thelu Veliga, Drift aims to put the Maldivian experience centre stage, and lets it speak for itself.
If you need TVs, swimming pools, and underwater restaurants during your stay in the Maldives, there’s plenty to choose from. If you can wean yourself off these more mundane requirements for a few days, Drift Thelu Veliga Retreat offers a very special opportunity to reconnect yourself to what this beautiful destination has to offer: beachfront bungalows with views to the horizon, pristine waters, powder-soft sand and charming hospitality.
