Six Senses Laamu is located in the Southern atoll of Laamu on the Island of Olhuveli. There is another resort that is actually named after the Island - Olhuveli - which I presume is the reason for naming this resort after the atoll instead. It IS a pretty name though.. This resort is a good example of value for money (by Maldivian standards remember, Always by Maldivian standards). It does cost a small bomb, as do all the resorts in the Maldives, more or less, but considering the level of luxury here, it is far more humanly priced than other, comparable resorts. I should imagine that the distance to Male has something to do with it, but it might just be fairly priced. :-)
So what of the resort itself then? The water villas here are delightful indeed, and you will be living in Royal style wherever you end up and whatever level of accomodation you choose. Me, being a beach bum myself, I have a soft spot for the enourmous beach villas. The design is very well thought through and the Crusoe-feeling 2.0 is all around. A very nice detail, in my opinion, is that you can actually jump in the water from almost every water villa. It is not possible in many resorts since the water level in the lagoon should make it very hazardous to leap from you villa deck into eternity, but here it is definitely possible. (See clip below. Made by Louise Hurst)
The common areas are absolutely beautiful and the bar for sunset sipping of cocktails - CHILL - is a stunner.
Six Senses Laamu has an ice Cream bar (included) with around 50 flavours. That alone would make me visit. :-) Of course thers is free bubbly at breakfast, as at any self-respecting Maldivian luxury resort, but the food options are Amazing. There is the ovewr water Longitude and Zen (finest sahimi anywhere) and the signature restaurant Leaf, high above in the palm tops. Sip Sip (GREAT name that!) by the pool offers drinks and lunch with casual flare.
Stunning, powdery white beaches and tasteful design ( I just adore the signature Lime/Lemon colours!!) with barefoot glamour and outstanding service. So, what's the catch? Well, I would not let i deter you at all, but you do have to get a domestic flight from Male to the atoll, but it is no more than 45 minutes (which is the same as a seaplane transfer to Kuredu, for example) and it is just a question of being smart when booking your international flight to match it to the domestic one. No more.
The Spa and Gym area are on the beach with sensational views and the spa treatment rooms are charmingly located in "nests" (You have to see them, amazing..) They offer an extensive spa menu and yoga - even aerial yoga! - and multiple other activities for the Active guest. I love it! Diving, snorkelling, dinner on a private Island..... there are loads to do, if you wish. Or maybe you just want to throw yourself off the wooden deck of your gigantic water villa into the infinite turqoise blue and into happiness? I know I would. WEBSITE FOR MORE INFO
