The Thai luxury brand Anantara has got several resorts in the Maldives and is a well established name. In South Malé atoll, within reach of a boat transfer, is a group of resorts. There is family oriented Anantara Dhigu, super Robinson luxury teeny tiny Naladhu with 19 villas for maximum privacy (Kate Moss has stayed there) and Anantara Veli, an adults only resort. Dhigu and Veli are connected by a wooden jetty and lay in a huge, turqoise lagoon. This is a very good value in the lower luxury segment. (Believe me, there are mostly luxury in the Maldives). Mikael Salomonsson, Maldives expert at Indcen resor in Stockholm tells me that they have very good exeperince of very pleased guests satying in Anantaras properties. One perk is that guests can use facilities on both Veli and Dhigu which gives lots of choice.
If you want to make a huge splash, maybe for your honeymoon, there is also 6 star Anantara Kihavah further North, in Baa atoll. Among over 100 resorts in the Maldives, where there are mostly 5 star and some 6 star islands (Yes, they have invented a new system in the Maldives, there are even 7 star private islands - it's crazy!) Kihavah is arguably among the top five along with legends as Gili Lankanfushi.
