Shukuriyaa (Thank you in the local language Divehi) to Komandoo and all the fantastic staff for yet another wonderful stay. Komandoo has been up and running since 1998 and during that time made a well deserved reputation for being a intimate, cosy, relaxing resort with kind and considerate staff, great food and easily accessed snorkeling on both sides of the Island. Truly a small paradise. We were there in February 2017 (again) and no less than half of the guests were repeaters. I have no hard evidence, but I would be very surprised if any other resort in the Maldives, let alone the world, can present similar numbers. Outstanding.
We love the beach and usually stay in a Jacuzzi beach Villa on the east side of Komandoo. This trip, however, we were in the Maldives for more than 3 weeks and 2 of them on Komandoo. Therefore we decided to start our stay by trying the Water villa for 6 nights. I have to admit we loved it!!! Amazing, uninterrupted views over the Indian Ocean from a huge sundeck. An easy swim to the reef and a glorious sunset spot. We had Villa Eagle Ray 4 which is toward the southwest if you like the sunshine and the sunset. Also, the artistic head of room attendants, Saeed, apart from keeping the room spotless, made pure art of towels for us and had us laughing and marvelling at a new creation of his, every day. Such a Lovely man. He is certainly very good example of why Komandoo is so sucessful!

Have a look inside our Water Villa on Komandoo. We were thrilled to get our own, personal sign on the villa this year. :-)
Saaed has been busy again.....
Komandoo is a tiny Island. Having a very energetic personality I often get questions about how it's possible that I love the Maldives so much? Well people, there is a huge difference between peaceful and dull. For anyone wanting to be Active and get new impressions there are loads of possibilities, even if a larger Island, like Kuredu, could be a better choice for the super restless, even on Komandoo the world below the surface alone should keep you satisified for a few years. Sharks, turtles, rays, coral reefs teeming with fish. I can highly recommend taking your Divers certificate together as a couple or a family. Prodivers is the best Dive center I have ever come across. Extremely professional, but still friendly, patient and easy going. In Lhaviyani atoll, where Komandoo an also Kuredu and Hurawalhi are situated, there a loads of World class dive sites. Kuredu Express is possibly the most famous, but Fushivaru Kandu and Thila are a diver's dream come true as well.
BRITT at sunset
If you would like to get off the Island for a bit of adventure, there are, for example, full day Cruises to be done on either the BRITT or the MUNA. Maximum ten guests, super good food (there is actually a kook on the boat), snorkleing and good chances of seeing doplhins and, if God is good, manta! You can rent one of these boats privately just for you 2 or for your family/friends. An unforgettable experience! A sunset cruise from Komandoois a nice 1,5 hours before dinner too
Then of course there is the Lovely little Duniye Spa offering pure bliss. My husband, who had never been to a massage or anything like that, was completely converted after coming to a couples treatment of 2 hours. Nowadays he wont miss out on a massage or two. It is not just a massage or a facial, it is a total experience and the therapists are so gentle and sweet and well trained. ..and then there is that delicious ginger tea you get afterwards. I have really tried but failed to find some at home.
Falhu restaurant outside deck
The food. What about the food? First; forget everything you know about buffet. This is totally different. So delicious, so fresh, so much taste. I am constantly in awe at how inventive the cooking is here. Something I appreciate enormously is the cleanliness, not just in the restaurant, but everywhere in the resort. Exemplary. (This is true for all the resorts I have visited in the Maldives though) Komandoo, just like its siblings Kuredu and Hurawalhi, has desalinated drinking water instead of the eco horror of plastic bottles. Love that! Komandoo offers a really generous All Inclusive plan. If you like a drink or two on holiday, it is very good value. Apart from the main restaurant there is an a la carte - AQUA - serving fine dining. This is s must, at least once during your stay.
When you are in the mood for a drink there are a few watering holes on Komandoo. Kandu bar is the main bar where the modest Entertainment takes Place at night also right by the pool area. Thundi bar is at the other end of the Island. It is open from 10.30 and Closes after sunset. Everybody gathers there for a pre dinner tipple. Very nice. Great spot to spend some time during the day for sunbathing as well. If you want to go snorkelling on the west side, this is a suitable place to get in. I should not forhet legendary barman Vinod with his kind smile keeping guests happy indeed.
There is so much to be said for Komandoo. The official video below sums it up nicely. What I want to know is; Are YOU ready to become a part of the Komandoo magic and maybe become a repeater too? :-) We will be back in February 2018. Can't wait to see gentleman Mr Shaid welcoming us on the jetty. :-)
