When Qatar Airways started its descent towards Hulhule Island and Velana International Airport last January (2017), I was desperately trying to spot the white roof of the Lighthouse, possibly the most famous landmark of any resort in the Maldives. Once we were outside the airport arrival building the Baros service magic took over and within a glimpse of an eyeand a fresh breeze on the boat, as always with sweet Rafael taking care of us, we were in Sails bar on Baros with ice cold champagne and lovely Lisa welcoming us to our fifth visit to the i sland. The transfer is a great reason in itself for choosing Baros. A quick one is heaven sent after a long flight, and for us poor Swedes from the north of Sweden it is no less than 24 hours from door to Male. Sure, you will (barely) see Male in the far distance, but it is definitely far enough to give the Maldivian "feel".
This time we stayed in a Deluxe Villa, the entry level of accomodation. But, this is Baros people, there are only wonderful accomodation there. We like being on the beach, if pushed, and the northwest side is our favourite spot. For honeymooners I would suggest going for a pool water villa or, if you really want to splash out, the Residence.

Look at how lush this Island is!!! And I have never seen as many high palm trees or as luxurious foliage as I have on Baros. The whole resort is basically a huge, tropical garden. How they manage to mantain it is beyond me, but it is fairytale stuff.
I mentioned the Baros service earlier. This is what really sets Baros apart and the reason for countless awards. The staff is well trained to the point they do not seem trained at all. The staff are all just friends helping you get as lovely a holiday as possible. Seems effortless. We all know it is not. It takes years and years of experience and education and dedication to reach that place and still you need staff that genuinly care about the guests. Very impressive. World class service indeed. Our villa host Ubaid was fantastic, and Hussain who has helped us at earlier visits, I consider a personal friend. They are all lovely people. Musthafeez is doing a great job managing Baros!
If good food is important to you, Baros is a great choice. Apart from the restaurants on the Island guests have the possibility of dining on the Pianodeck, on the Beach, on the boat Nooma and - on the Sandbank. They take you out just before sunset and you get to watch it with champagne and canapés while the Cook (hidden discretley behind a bambu wall) prepares your three course dinner. You are all alone in the middle of the ocean and the set up with tiki lights and Everything brings tears to my eyes, (Thinking of proposing yet? :-)) It is a memory you will share for life.
We actually got engaged on the Piano deck in December 2013. It was so cool. Half the Island must have been in on the secret and I got to fish my ring from the sea. Couldn't really say "No" after that, could I?
For us Baros holds a special magic and we will be going back in February 2018. I hereby invite you to join us as one of the Baros family.
